The International Motor Show (IAA) is currently taking place in Munich. The notion that the IAA is solely focused on automobiles is inaccurate. Two years ago, amidst the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers, the German Association of the Automotive Industry, completely transformed the traditional car exhibition, aiming to ensure its survival as a "unique global mobility platform." They relocated it to Munich.
For the second consecutive year in Munich, the IAA aspires to be a showcase for "urban mobility," presenting a "mobility ecosystem" rather than just a singular mode of transportation like cars. Marketing and promotion may sound like excuses for the absence of many foreign car manufacturers at this year's Munich exhibition. In fact, regardless of the appeal of the new IAA, there will be a greater presence of bicycle manufacturers.
One such German bicycle brand is Canyon, which has been emphasizing sustainable travel since its establishment in 2002. In addition to road and mountain bikes, Canyon also offers hybrid electric bikes.
Founder Roman Arnold, an amateur cyclist, saw a business opportunity from his passion for cycling. His father recognized that bike components often got damaged, leading him to purchase a trailer in 1985 and import bicycle parts from Italy. After his father's passing, Roman and his brother took over the business. After a few years of OEM production, Canyon Bicycles GmbH was officially established, becoming a legitimate bicycle manufacturer with its own frame designs. They hired local German cycling experts to collaborate on creating Canyon bikes. Like many brands, their frames, forks, handlebars, and other components are manufactured in China. Rigorous production processes involve CT scans of all their components, with the German factory scanning 10% of the products to ensure a failure rate of only 0.02%, providing safe products to the public.
In addition to their direct sales model and collaborations with top global riders, Canyon's brand awareness and sales have continued to grow. They constantly optimize product designs to create bicycles that embody the thrill of cycling.
