Pieter Ceizer and Mizuno Reunite for Garde la Pêche Contender Collab

10/07/2023

Amsterdam-born, Paris-based artist Pieter Ceizer and Mizuno have reunited for their second collaboration: a brand-new iteration of the Contender dubbed “Garde la Pêche.” Following up their first co-created effort in 2020 — colorful iterations of the Sky Medal and Wave Skyrise made in honor of the Amsterdam Marathon — the “Garde la Pêche” opts for a more leisurely inspiration, as the French phrase it gets its name from roughly translates to “keep smiling” or “keep your spirits up” in English.

Due to its spelling, the phrase is also reminiscent of peaches, so the rich orange and yellow shades that can be found on the sweet fruit are displayed across the Contender, a model that first debuted as a go-anywhere runner in 1995 and is enjoying a second life as a key silhouette in Mizuno’s lifestyle lineup. Besides its peachy color scheme and suede/leather construction, the “Garde la Pêche” also features red and green accents, custom text on the heels and tongues and a full-color insole graphic that shows a decidedly peach rendition of Ceizer’s popular Woody sculpture series.
