Caring about the Mountains, Loving the Land, and Embracing the Future Are What Have Kept this Italian Brand Going Strong!

Since the outbreak of pandemic, travel has been something many people long for, and accommodation and travel packages centered around digital nomads have been working hard to meet the demand. The natural beauty of the small town of Ollolai in Italy is stunning, but over the past 100 years, the population of Ollolai has been decreasing, going from 2,250 people to 1,300 people. This has been a problem that Italy has been striving to address for many years, and they consider it a national emergency, with projections for population growth in 2022 hitting an all-time low.

Since then, Italy has been making efforts to attract both short-term and long-term tourists. Their "Buy a House for 1 Euro" initiative has attracted residents from all around the world. Mayor Francesco Columbu of the city stated to CNBC, "It has been a great success, with many foreigners purchasing and renovating dozens of abandoned homes." Now, Columbu is putting his words into action with the "Work from Ollolai" program, which aims to transform the location into a digital nomad hub by allocating an investment of 20,000 euros towards that goal. Over the next two years, the village will host one remote worker at a time for a period of up to three months. Workers who choose to live there will find themselves residing in houses previously occupied by farmers and shepherds, who used to sleep on the floor alongside their animals. Now, they come equipped with offices and high-speed internet connections. Being the only nomadic community in the area, socializing is easy. People are eager to get to know the visitors and extend invitations to local markets and festivals.
