At BERING we combine Danish design with the beauty of the Arctic. The story of BERING is closely related to its founder Michael Witt Johansen. Ever since his childhood in Denmark, he has been fascinated by the breathtaking nature of the Arctic. First in his mind were his father’s impressive pictures and exciting travel reports from the far north. Then came his own exploratory journeys to Greenland.
The fantastic experiences of dazzling northern lights, majestic polar bears, clear air and endless winter landscapes remain unforgettable to him.
At the same time, as a Dane, Michael Witt Johansen is influ- enced by clean, Danish design. Thus, over time, a dream of his own emerged: to successfully combine both worlds. With BERING it became reality.
A parachute jump was to become the cornerstone of the BERING story: Michael Witt Johansen’s friend and co-founder René Gross Kaerskov parachuted over the North Pole. With this jump, René wanted to raise awareness of global warming during Earth Hour. Earth Hour is an environmental movement that calls people to turn off lights around the world for one hour on one day in March. When René Michael showed pho- tos from his trip to the North Pole, two personal stories gave rise to an idea.
