Garmin Introduces Rugged Instinct Crossover Analog Smartwatch

05/07/2023

Having proven its knack for building reliable, high-utility wearables over the last two decades, Garmin has now revealed its latest wristwear offering built for hikes and demanding outdoor expeditions. The new “Instinct Crossover” features a distinct hybrid design combining a standard analog setup with digital smartwatch features.

In terms of durability, the Instinct Crossover features a dual-layered bezel, a 10ATM water resistance rating advertising pressure tolerances equivalent to a depth of 100 meters, and both thermal and shock resistance up to military standards. Luminescent hands offer visibility in low-light conditions and dual-format GPS enables live location and incident detection functions.

The relatively simple interface offers 28 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, up to 20 hours in GPS mode, and up to 71 days in battery-saver mode. That being said, the Instinct Crossover is very much a smartwatch. Connectivity to both Android and Apple devices allows for email and text alerts as well as Garmin Pay Contactless payments. As usual, standard health, sleep-tracking, and fitness features such as VO2 Max and heart rate monitoring come included.

The Instinct Crossover starts at $500 USD for the base version, moving up to $550 USD for the Solar-powered model, and $600 for the top-of-the-line Tactical version. The new wristwear is now available on the Garmin website.
