When it comes to printmaking, the Beligan designer is one to draw a crowd. For Spring/Summer 2024, Dries Van Noten has concentrated his efforts in tailoring, silhouette, movement and shape.
This time around, the designer took a more traditional approach, presenting garments in strictly vibrant color blocking instead of his usual all-over abstract prints. When it comes to tailoring, this season saw Dries take a more streamlined approach, utilizing more fluid fabrics that highlight the movement of the individual wearing the pieces. Trench coats were made to flow with the pace, while silk double-breasted jackets were lengthened to give a casual and slightly over-sized look.
Dries wants to redefine elegance in the modern age. Understanding that young people look towards comfort and effortless elegance, the connotations of the pieces highlight a more elongated silhouette. Hints of streetwear and athletic wear come through with the short shorts, joggers and more. The juxtaposition sees traditional suiting paired with sandals or even collared shirts, with loose-fitting, bright shorts. Clogs were a common pairing, giving outfits a sense of informality and comfort, once again. The laidback elegant aesthetic sees Dries focus on a subtle use of color to highlight the structure of the pieces.
