RHUDE FW23 Is A Visual Representation Of What Fuelled Rhuigi Villaseñor's Fire

13/07/2023

Rhuigi Villaseñor revisits fond childhood memories in a gas station, dreaming of a lavish lifestyle that is now a reality for his Fall/Winter 2023 RHUDE collection. Following a high with his Bally debut las September, the designer returns to Los Angeles to bring his West Coast swagger back to his own label. As guests entered the runway venue, they were greeted by a RHUDE-branded Lamborghini which set the tone for the collection and the collaboration that was about to be unveiled in front of their eyes.

Designer Rhuigi spoke to Vogue about the set design and what this collection is inspired by, “It’s sort of the exclamation point on all the codes I’ve been building. I would hang out in gasoline stations with my friends and dream about driving nice cars, starting brands, and living a lavish life. I think with my life moving so fast, it’s important to set my feet on the ground and go back to the foundation, to the roots.”

The collection is equal parts nostalgic and modern, bringing conventional RHUDE silhouettes that included baggy basketball shorts paired with varsity or motocross jackets as well as the typical tracksuit look and half-tucked-in striped pajama shirt. Villaseñor gives baggy silhouettes an elegant makeover, combining oversized cargo pants and reworked nad patched-up denim pieces with tailored jackets. The designer looks towards the Y2K aesthetic that informed his upbringing and current trends fueled by Gen Z to bring together a sentimental, yet contemporary streetwear-focused collection.

The elevated idea of streetwear is brought forward by the sleek leather jackets, snakeskin coat and formal boots. Collaborative pieces with Lamborghini give the heritage brand a revamped look, combining vintage branding with contemporary silhouettes fit for the LA-style that often informs Villaseñor’s interpretation of fashion.
