British heritage outerwear label Gloverall has partnered with Descente ALLTERRAIN for a reimagining of the classic Monty duffle coat. The design of Gloverall’s signature style remains the same, with its Japanese partner bringing technical expertise and its Mizusawa Down to the design.
Mizusawa Down is crafted in Descente’s factory in Japan, and is bonded using thermocompression techniques rather than sewing. This technique helps prevent water entry and feather loss, while making the jacket more efficient at heat retention. Descente has also used a “heat navi” system to convert sunlight into stored heat and a dual zipper ventilation zipper, while shoulder harnesses mean that the coat can be worn as a backpack.
Despite technical innovations such as the down used and Descente’s “Parahood” system, the collaborative Monty still has a wool-like feel to emulate the original. This has been achieved using a CEBONNER Horns Nylon fabric, while other Gloverall detailing including jude rope and toggles remains.
The collaborative coat comes in either navy or “Stone” and is priced at £1,300 GBP (approximately $1,715 USD). Both colorways are available now from the Gloverall web store:
