After joining forces with legendary Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara for a Spring/Summer 2021 capsule, Stella McCartney has reunited with the free-spirited visionary for a second round of unisex apparel. This time, the collaboration exudes a liberated, punk demeanor, with a light-hearted edit of collectible ready-to-wear designs and vegan accessories.
With a matured narrative, the collection intends to spotlight relevant, present-day issues through its artful designs. Across several iterations, the brand makes calls to action with emblazoned social slogans, including “CHANGE THE HISTORY,” DON’T WASTE ANOTHER DAY” and “STOP THE BOMBS.” On knitwear, outerwear and jersey iterations, the team-up makes a statement with particularly poignant demands, without ever taking away from its fashion-first agenda.
Elsewhere, Nara’s signature illustrations of wide-eyed, big-headed children in animal costumes dominate the genderless range. The artist’s classic touches appear on Oxford shirts, shorts, organic cotton T-shirts and embroidered organic cotton denim alike. For comfort-oriented individuals, Nara’s works also adorn fleece sweat sets and relaxed hoodies. Capping the collection, the partnership introduces silky daytime pyjamas and Breton-striped tops in pastel tones.
