The Ellis Brooklyn Ethos:Clean Ingredients, Sustainable Sourcing And Unforgettable Scents

09/08/2023

The brand was founded by Bee Shapiro, a New York Times columnist and beauty editor at Vogue, Vanity Fair and InStyle. As a perfume lover, she looked for natural body lotions with luxurious scents, but didn't find what she was looking for. She developed her own collection with perfumer Jerome Epinetette and named it after her daughter: Ellis Brooklyn. Jerome Epinette also created the popular Chloe and Byredo perfumes.

The founder said: "When I started cleaning out my beauty routine, I found that there were no complicated cleansing perfume options. It was 2013 and the beginning of clean beauty as we know it today. Skincare and cosmetics have made exciting advances, but perfumes are still stuck in another era when ingredients are almost deliberately ambiguous. There are many things that need to be clarified, but I also think of many wonderful possibilities. I've always loved perfume - it's a powerful, intangible language that can tell a story or evoke a keen memory in a single concise sniff. Especially in our world of constant, intense visual imagery, perfume reconnects us with our sense of smell and our present state of mind. Close your eyes, take a breath, and live in the moment. It is perhaps unique in its ability to convey happiness. It is this power of perfume - to convey health and beauty - that highlights all of our scents. I'll leave the avant-garde scent experiments to others. While I appreciate the surreal smell of a pencil eraser, I'd rather focus on making something so stunningly beautiful and well-crafted that it becomes a realistic part of everyday life. We also adhere to strict standards of cleanliness and beauty and source in a sustainable manner.
